OHS girls’ swim team finishes 12th in state championships

The Owensboro girls’ swim team had a solid showing at the state meet Friday in Lexington, using a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay plus a handful of other top-20 finishes to claim 12th overall in the team standings.

The four-person team of Paige Neal, Addison Callis, Samantha Phillips and Abby Warren finished fourth in the championship heat of the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.26. Their preliminary time of 1:40.19 was the third-best.

Those four swimmers also competed in the 200 medley relay, finishing 12th overall with a time of 1:52.62 in the consolation heat.

Neal had a pair of top-10 finishes — missing out on the championship heat by less than .2 seconds in each event. She took ninth in the 100 freestyle (53.61) and 10th in the 50 freestyle (24.55).

Phillips placed 14th in the 500 freestyle (5:16.45) and 15th in the 200 freestyle (1:58.30), while Warren finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.12). Callis placed 31st in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.29) and 35th in the 200 IM (2:20.88).

The Daviess County girls’ team also competed in a pair of relays. The 200 medley relay team of Kayedon Mattingly, Molly Church, Ella Johnson and Nya Hammons finished 37th (2:03.32). The 400 freestyle relay of Avery Krahwinkel, Hammons, Mattingly and Johnson placed 35th (4:03.95).
