Region wrestling: 12 locals advance to state

Twelve local wrestlers are headed to the state tournament after finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes in Saturday’s Region 2 tournament, and another four will serve as alternates.

Owensboro’s Andres Quintana was the lone local champion, claiming the top spot in the 113 division. Noah Kirkman (3rd – 120) and Jordan Neal (4th – 195) also automatically advance to state, while Gabriel Quintana (5th – 138), Devon Carr (5th – 152) and Logan Palmer (5th – 220) are alternates.

Daviess County led local schools with five automatic qualifiers, including second-place finishes by Reese Haight (138), Conner Tolson (182) and Say Moe (285). Landen Boone (3rd – 145) and Skyler Walker (4th – 170) also earned spots in the state tournament.

Apollo landed four automatic qualifiers, starting with a second-place finish by Cameron Baker (160). Blaze Cart (285) took third, while David Gerkin (132) and Marco Reyes (182) each finished fourth. Adolfo Pascual (5th – 126) will serve as an alternate.

The state tournament will take place Feb. 14-15 at  Alltech Arena in Lexington.
