A dozen local wrestlers will be eyeing state titles today when the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships begin at Alltech Arena in Lexington.
Owensboro has a trio of individuals in action, including region champion Andres Quintana (113 pound division, 36-6 record). Noah Kirkman (120, 31-3) finished third at region and Jordan Neal (195, 36-14) placed fourth to also advance.
Daviess County has five competitors at state after a strong showing a week ago. Reese Haight (138, 41-6), Conner Tolson (182, 26-10) and Say Moe (285, 33-7) all finished second in the region, while Landen Boone (145, 38-13) placed third and Skyler Walker (170, 12-2) took fourth.
Rounding out the local competitors are four wrestlers from Apollo. Cameron Baker (160, 32-10) was second at region and Blaze Cart (285, 13-14) was third, while David Gerkin (132, 14-8) and Marco Reyes (182, 28-15) both placed fourth.
Competition begins at 8:30 Friday and ends Saturday afternoon.
