Owensboro 7th-grader Georgia Warren finished 18th in her debut at the KHSAA Diving State Championship, narrowly missing out on making the final cut of 16 divers.

She was in 18th place heading into the semifinal round and held firm to her position. Warren’s semifinal score was 235.05 — she needed better than 241.60 to make the final cut.

Owensboro Catholic junior Matthew Murphy finished 19th in the boys’ competition, also barely missing the final cut.

Murphy was in the middle of a group of eight divers all within roughly five points of each other competing to make the semifinal cut. He was 17th heading into the semifinal round but dropped two spots. His semifinal score was 246.35 — he needed better than 250.05 to make the final cut.

Three other local divers also competed but were unable to make it to the semifinal round. Owensboro sophomore Abby Warren finished 37th in the girls’ competition. For the Owensboro Catholic boys, freshman Nolan Igleheart placed 28th and 7th-grader Calvin Padgett placed 38th.
