The 15th Annual Go Junior Golf Series is still set to take place — at least for now.

“When summer arrives in two months, we anticipate that the GO Series will take place in some fashion, whether it be a full schedule or a modified schedule,” said GO series founder and director Mark Price in a statement earlier this week. “All of this can change of course, and we should know much more by May 1.”

The first event is scheduled for May 28 at Windward Heights Country Club in Hawesville.

While heavy restrictions continue to be enforced on most sporting events, golfing is one of the few that remain relatively normal.

“From a golfing standpoint, we are encouraged that golf courses may remain open as long as social distancing guidelines are adhered to,” Price said. “Modifications are in place at many golf courses in the area to comply with these guidelines.”

Those include either filling the cup or raising the hole so golfers don’t have to touch the flag stick, limited number of people on a tee box and most importantly maintaining distance between players.

For the Go Series, the registration window remains open.

“However, given the fluidity of the situation, and the fact that financial hardships may have been created, we recommend that everyone interested in playing in the GO Series should go online and submit only the registration form,” Price said. “That will register your child for the events they wish to compete in. As we draw closer to the start of the Series, we will then address submitting entry fees.”

For those who have already sent their entry fees, those can be held the fees as a deposit or  refunded. Golfers may also download a copy of the registration form and mail it in if preferred.

Price said he will keep everyone informed of any new developments, adding that the health and safety of the players, parents, grandparents, golf course personnel, volunteers, etc. will take precedence in the decision-making.

“As mentioned in our previous communication, we have been monitoring the current health situation that has disrupted so much of our daily lives,” he said. “We also pray for those in our GO Series family who have been adversely affected, and hope that normalcy will soon return.”
