The Kentucky Lightning youth softball travel teams had success over the weekend, with two squads claiming a championship and another taking second place.

The 8U and one 10U each won a title, while a second 10U team finished runner-up. The teams compete in tournaments in Indiana since Kentucky has not yet opened up competition for youth sports.

Hillary Plain, head coach of Kentucky Lightning 8U, said it’s been tough not being able to play, and they wanted to start off their delayed season strong.

“Because of the whole COVID stuff we just now started our 2020 season this weekend,” Plain said. “And three of our five (Kentucky Lightning) teams went to the championship game in their levels, with two of them winning championships. We wanted to put our name out there.”

The teams will be back in action this weekend in Indiana.
