The Owensboro Dust Bowl will have to wait another year for its 47th edition as the event is cancelled for 2020, according to a statement made by the committee Wednesday.

The Dust Bowl has been a mainstay in Owensboro for nearly half a century, but the court at Kendall-Perkins Park will remain empty rather than be filled with players and fans of all ages during the third week of July.

The statement from the Dust Bowl Committee reads as follows:

“The Dust Bowl Basketball Tournament Committee of Owensboro, Kentucky announces the cancellation of the 47th Annual Dust Bowl Basketball Tournament scheduled for July 17-25, 2020 at Kendall-Perkins Park Owensboro, KY.

In accordance with the principals of our Mission and Vision Statement we find that the safety, healthy lifestyles, and wellness of our board, committee members, volunteers, participants, spectators and supporters remain our top priority during this unprecedented time.

The cancellation was made based on July 1 restrictions per the National Emergency State and Local Executive Orders that have been in place regarding social distancing and the band of all mass gatherings.

All teams entered will receive a full refund as soon as possible.

Be safe! Take care of yourself and each other! We will all get through this together.”
