The Owensboro Catholic boys’ golf team claimed first place Monday in the Hopkinsville Invitational, besting second-place Daviess County by six shots.
The Aces shot 317 and were led by silver-medalist Jakob Wellman (72), who finished one shot behind individual champion James Folz of Hopkinsville.
Other scoring for Catholic came from Reece Higdon (79), Griffin Payne (79) and JT Payne (87). For the second tournament in a row, they were the only team in the field to post three sub-80 rounds.
DC (323) was paced by Grant Broughton (77). Nick Johnson posted a 78 and Gabe Vincent shot 82, while Braden Whistle and Dawson Lamb each finished with an 86.
Owensboro (374) placed 10th with scoring from James Rhineburger (88), Will Hume (90), Will Rickard (97) and Cole Crews (99).
Apollo (405) placed 15th with scoring from Nathan Payne (95), Trevor Cecil (101), Ethan Dych (104) and Tanner Klee (105).
