From a Brescia Athletics press release:
The Brescia baseball program has been on a champion-building mission for the past couple of years and with each recruiting class brought in, the future just gets brighter and brighter. With a solid core of players returning, the Bearcats welcome the next layer of talented and hard-working recruits with eager anticipation of what this program might achieve together in the coming 2020-21 campaign.
While this year’s recruiting class is a large one at 25 new recruits, it nonetheless comes short of the whopping 38 recruits that were announced in 2018 when a JV baseball program was first started at Brescia. Of this year’s 25 incoming recruits, there are nine transfers and 16 true freshmen.
“This is an athletically gifted group overall with a lot of versatile guys who can do more than one thing on the field,” head coach Jon Herbig said. “Several guys have pitched and played a position up to this point and we will just have to try it out and see what suits each guy best at this level. It’s a good problem to have for us as we thrive on versatility and competitiveness.”
Transfers Trejen Fox-Birdwell, Trey Elkins, Diego Martinez, Alejandro Vazquez and Kane Adams are all guys expected to make a major immediate impact. Martinez, Vazquez, and Adams will be a shot in the arm for the Bearcats pitching staff while Fox-Birdwell and Elkins are both two-way players who could be called on to contribute from the mound as well as in the field and at the plate.
“Our pitching is getting much deeper above all,” Herbig said. “We are transferring in some quality pitchers and even among the incoming freshmen there is a lot of pitching potential. We are also picking up a lot of footspeed with this group which plays into the aggressive style we embrace. Offensively, we are getting several guys who can really hit and it’s just a great mix of abilities overall.”
