Only one local field will be lit up Friday night as Apollo is at Daviess County but Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic are on the road.

The Red Devils head to Grayson County to take on the Cougars as Catholic heads to Butler County for a battle with the Bears.

Owensboro (6-0) at Grayson County (5-1)

The Owensboro Red Devils are off to their best start in more than a decade as they sit at 6-0 on the season.

OHS travels to Grayson County for a battle with the 5-1 Cougars tonight when their lone loss coming against Graves County in a 45-0 drumming by the Eagles.

The Cougars are led by running back Caden Woodcock as he has 975 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. Kaylor Decker has thrown for 290 yards and a score while also running for 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Mason Miller is just under the century mark at 95 rushing yards but he has four touchdowns this season.

Hunter Tomes is the Cougars’ top receiver with 12 catches for 256 yards and two scores.

On defense, Grayson is led by Zach Bratcher and his 48 total tackles (4 TFL, 2 sacks).

The Red Devils have used a balance attack this season to dismantle opponents as they’ve outscored their foes 274-89 and have the top RPI in 5A at .708.

Junior standout Gavin Wimsatt is 78-of-124 with 1,143 passing yards to go with 12 touchdowns and six picks. Wimsatt has also ran for 229 yards and four touchdowns.

The Red Devils’ leading rusher is Ethan Avery as he’s accumulated 497 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns but Austin Gough has been the goalline option for Jay Fallin with his five touchdowns and 76 yards.

Ben Flaherty has been on fire in recent weeks as he’s now OHS’s leading receiver with 304 yards and three scores but Treyvon Tinsley has 17 catches for 248 and five touchdowns. Steven Stevenson (234 yards, touchdown), Khalil Rogers (220 yards, touchdown) and Avery (107 yards, 2 touchdowns) have also been prime targets for Wimsatt.

Gough also leads the Red Devils in tackles with 67 this season while they’ve forced 12 turnovers (7 fumbles, 5 interceptions).

Owensboro goes for 7-0 at 7 p.m. in Leitchfield.

Owensboro Catholic (4-2) at Butler County (1-4)

After a 4-0 start to the season, the Owensboro Catholic Aces have dropped their last two games against undefeated opponents as they fell to Hancock County in a heartbreaker last week.

The Aces now head to Butler County to take on the 1-4 Bears as they try to get back to their winning ways.

Butler’s lone win this season came in its opener against Hart County but they’ve dropped four-straight since and also had its game canceled last week with Russell County due to COVID protocol.

The Bears are led by Jagger Henderson as the dual-threat quarterback leads Butler in passing and rushing.

Through the air, Henderson has 598 yards with seven touchdowns and three picks while he has 320 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Josh Morris has also chipped in in the rushing attack with 153 yards and three scores.

Solomon Flener (242 yards, 3 touchdowns) and Bryar Beasley (133 yards, 3 touchdowns) have been the favorite targets of Henderson.

Morris is also the leading tackler for the Bears with 44 tackles, including four for loss.

The Aces will try to snap their skid as junior quarterback Lincoln Clancy is on pace for a solid season with 922 yards and 11 touchdowns to go with five interceptions.

Catholic has four rusher with at least 125 yards as its led by Hunter Monroe and his 330 yards and three touchdowns. Clancy (297 yards, 2 touchdowns), Braden Mundy (195 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Chris Boarman (126 yards, 5 touchdowns) have also helped on the ground.

Mundy is the Aces’ leading receiver with 392 yards and eight touchdowns with 26 catches on the year. Michael Sullivan (196 yards, touchdown) and Hunter Small (182 yards) have also hit the century mark.

Boarman leads the team in tackles with 73 as he’s got 11 tackles for loss and two sacks this season.

The Aces have five interceptions this season, including a 22-yard pick six by Clark in last week’s loss to the Hornets.

Catholic will try to get back on track tonight at Butler County at 7 p.m.
