Former Owensboro Catholic standout John Augenstein finished with a 75 in the final round Sunday at his first Masters as the Vanderbilt Commodore finished in a tie for 55th.

Dustin Johnson won his first green jacket as he carried a big lead into the final day and finished at -20 to beat Cameron Smith and Sunjae Im as they both finished at -15.

Augenstein went into Sunday’s finale even-par after rounds of 69-72-75 the first three days but he found trouble early on Sunday.

After starting on the 10th hole, Augenstein went bogey, birdie, double bogey, bogey, bogey and birdie on his first six holes before settling down and grabbing three pars to end his first nine with a 39.

On the front nine, Augenstein started with a birdie and added another on the par-4 7th but also picked up bogeys on No. 3 and No. 8.

Augenstein was the second-best amateur on Sunday as familiar foe Alex Ogletree finished in a tie for 34th.

A decision now awaits Augenstein as he’ll either return to Vanderbilt for his final semester as a Commodore or he’ll give up his amateur status and turn pro.
