The Owensboro Red Devils are coming off of a dominant win over Breckinridge County in their playoff opener but it now is up for a test with a familiar foe in the Graves County Eagles.

OHS took down GC 42-21 on Oct. 16 but the Red Devils weren’t the offensive juggernaut they’ve been at times this season, despite the 42 total points.

Junior standout quarterback Gavin Wimsatt was 15-of-18 for 163 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Wimsatt also added 37 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Ethan Avery (55 yards, touchdown) and Austin Gough (25 yards, touchdown) also had rushing scores for the Red Devils. Ben Flaherty had the lone receiver touchdown.

The game shifted at the start of the second half when Treyvon Tinsley took the kickoff to the house to give the Red Devils a cushion they carried the rest of the game.

Graves County is 7-2 this season and hasn’t lost since their contest against the Red Devils’. Mayfield delivered the Eagles their only other loss this season.

Junior Clint McKee has ran for 1,558 yards on 234 carries this season as the GC standout has 21 touchdowns on the ground.

John Brown does the passing for the Eagles as he has 1,861 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Mason Grant (693 yards, 6 touchdowns), Race Richards (551 yards, 8 touchdowns), Kyler Madding (259 yards, 3 touchdowns) and McKee (208 yards, 2 touchdowns) all have at least 200 receiving yards on the season.

Owensboro and Graves County get underway at 7 p.m. at Rash Stadium.

The Owensboro Catholic Aces haven’t been able to advance past the second round of the KHSAA Class 2A State Playoffs in a few seasons but coach Jason Morris and his electric offense will try to right that wrong tonight in Hancock County.

The Hornets edged Catholic 30-29 on Oct. 16 after the Aces couldn’t convert a two-point conversion late in the game.

Lincoln Clancy started at quarterback for the Aces that game but they’ll have a different took today as Braden Mundy is coming off of his first start at quarterback.

Mundy was 4-for-4 with 94 yards and a touchdown while also running for 116 yards and two scores. Hunter Monroe led the team with 157 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Chris Boarman also had a rushing touchdown for the Aces. Max Byrne had the lone touchdown catch as he hauled in three catches for 53 yards.

The Hornets cruised by Todd County Central 36-0 last week in the first round as they were led by Darian Clay and his 126 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Cole Dixon was 3-of-3 for 92 yards and two scores. Austin Volock (63 yards, touchdown) and Sebastian Fredell (29 yards, touchdown) had the receiving scores for Hancock County.

The Aces and Hornets get underway at 7 p.m. in Lewisport.
