3rd Region All “A” Classic championship: Owensboro Catholic 8, Hancock County 2

The Owensboro Catholic Aces won the 3rd Region All “A” Classic Tournament when they took down Hancock County 8-2 behind 15 hits off of the Aces bats.

Catholic scored in every inning but the second as they held the Hornets scoreless until the top of the seventh when they scored their only two runs of the game.

Sam McFarland got it done with his arm and his bat as the junior standout went 3-4 at the plate with three runs but also got the win on the hill. McFarland went all seven innings and struck out eight while allowing just two earned runs on three hits.

Luke Evans (2-4, R), Finley Munsey (1-4, 2B, 3 RBIs), Braden Mundy (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Everett Munsey (2-3, RBI, run) all had big days at the plate for the Aces as all nine starts recorded hits in the victory.

Catholic is now 6-2 on the year as they play their first 9th District game on Friday at home against Apollo.

Daviess County 10, Owensboro 1

The Daviess County Panthers used a five-run seventh inning to bust the game and take down Owensboro 10-0 in a 9th District tilt Tuesday at Shifley Park.

The Panthers led 4-1 after three and held the Red Devils bats at bay as OHS finished with four hits in the game but also had six errors in the field.

Decker Renfrow led DC for the second night in a row as he went 4-5 with two RBIs and three runs in the victory.

Cason Troutman (2-4, 2B, RBI), Brock Brubaker (1-2, 2 runs) and Layton Huskisson (2 runs, 2 RBIs) also helped the Panthers put runs on the board.

Ethan Gibson led the Red Devils as their lone senior went 1-3 with an RBI in the loss.

Daviess County has now own three in a row with the Panthers sitting at 6-3 on the year. DC plays today at Bowling Green.

The Red Devils fall to 2-5 on the year as they’ll try to snap their three-game losing streak Friday when they host Floyd Central (Ind.).

Apollo 9, Muhlenberg County 7

After trailing 6-2 after four innings against Muhlenberg County, the Apollo Eagles bats woke up for seven runs in the next three innings to take down the Mustangs 9-7.

The Eagles used five pitchers for a combined eight strikeouts as Will Strode grabbed the victory on the mound.

Nine Apollo players had hits in the win while Tanner Klee (2 RBIs, 2 runs), Nick Judd (2 runs), Dan St. Clair (2 RBIs) and Nolan Millay (2 RBIs) all helped in the win.

The win gives the Eagles six in a row as they’re now 10-2 on the year.

Apollo hosts South Spencer today at AHS.
