The Brescia men’s track & field team had two student-athletes qualify and compete at the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship meet, hosted in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Wednesday and Thursday.

“I’m proud of how both Landon and Mason competed at Nationals,” said Head Coach Luke Stoffel. “They both finished top 25 in the nation, which is a great accomplishment and helps further our track & field program.”

LANDON HOLT

Landon Holt (SR/Dawson Springs, KY) was the first Bearcat to cross the finish line, racing in the 400m hurdles prelims on day one of the National Championship. He placed 23rd in the nation, running a time of 56.29 seconds.

“I had a great time! I was given the opportunity to compete against some of the nation’s top runners and enjoyed it immensley,” said Holt. “I had a fun week with my coaches and teammate and am glad that I got to experience it before my college career came to an end.”

“Landon did exactly what he had to do to try to qualify for finals in the 400m hurdles,” said Stoffel. “It wasn’t his fastest time of the season, but he left it all on the track and that’s all we will ever ask of our athletes. Landon had a great career at Brescia and we’re grateful for all the hard work he put into the program.”

Holt finished his Brescia career as a four time River States Conference champion, 18 time All-Conference athlete, 14 time Brescia school record holder, and hit two NAIA National Championship standards.

MASON ASCHENBRENNER

Mason Aschenbrenner (JR/Ottumwa, IA) competed in the 110m hurdles prelims on day two of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, placing 14th in the nation with a collegiate PR of 14.44 seconds.

“Being able to compete at the highest level has allowed me to reach a greater potential in the 110m hurdles. With another PR, I am one step closer to where I want to be and am incredibly excited to compete for the championship in the coming years,” said Aschenbrenner.

“Mason has worked hard all season and met his two goals going into the National meet — top 15 in the nation and sub 14.50 in the event. We’re excited by how much he improved this season and looking forward to seeing how much he accomplishes in the future,” said Assistant Coach Kyle Robinson.

Mason finishes this season by improving his collegiate PR from 14.61 to 14.44 seconds in the 110m hurdles, as well as earning two River States Conference championships in the 110m hurdles and 4x100m relay.
