Thanks to strong showings from several individuals, the Owensboro Archery Club walked away from the S3DA Nationals with two titles and a 3rd-place finish. A handful of competitors for Trinity also found success on the national stage.

OAC took first in the elementary and middle school divisions, while the high school team placed third.

The sibling duo of Hunter and Anslee Roberson led the way, finishing in second place in the Young Adult Male Bow Hunter and Youth Female Bow Hunter divisions, respectively.

Other top-10 placements came from Kesley Adkisson (5th), Annabell Jackson (6th) and Delaina Davis (9th) in the middle school divisions; Gabe Mindrup (5th), Gage Logsdon (7th), Briley Mattingly (7th) and Caylob Roberts (9th) in the elementary divisions; and Kent Wethington (4th place), Becky Heavner (4th place) and Meg Curtis (6th place) in the high school divisions.

“We’re hoping we can keep growing,” coach Adam Logsdon said. “We’ve got a lot of good shooters coming up through the ranks. Even our high school kids two years ago had a national championship as well. We’re losing some good shooters as well, but with the younger age coming up, they’re putting in the work and putting in the time and the future is bright.”

Trinity

With only five members competing, Trinity was unable to earn as many points as needed for a high placement in the team competition.

However, multiple individuals still had successful days, including Clayton Rhodes (7th) and Lucas Rhodes who led the youth for Trinity.

All in all, coach Rodney Rhodes and company are taking this as a learning experience and are excited to grow for the future.

“The big thing is for our youth shooters this was their first 3D season,” Rhodes said. “They gained some very valuable experience throughout this season… For them to actually get out and get the experience of being out there for outdoors [shooting] and then to be able to go to nationals and learn that they have to shoot two good days in a row was a good lesson for them.”
