Owensboro boys track and field came away with a top-five finish overall while Daviess County found a number of top-10 finishes individually and in relays at the 3A State Track Meet.

Owensboro finished fourth overall on the day, thanks to dominant performances individually, paired with a few key wins in relays.

“Overall I’m proud of our guys,” Head Coach Drew Hall said. “We had a few guys who PR’d. We had some great times today. All you can ask from the kids is to give their best and that’s what they did.”

Reece Caroll came up big on the day in multiple events, placing third in the 4×200 Meter Relay with a time of 1:28.50 and seventh in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.02.

“Reece Caroll, he’s just a different cat,” Hall said. “He ran a 49 for his fastest of the year. We had guys that stepped up today at the right time and they gave their all.”

Nathanael Turner rounded out the individual races on the day for Owensboro by finishing fourth in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:58.09.

Owensboro had multiple athletes finish in the top-five outside of races, with Ethan Pendleton leading the way with a second place finish in High Jump at 6-6.

Steven Stevenson grabbed fifth in Long Jump with a mark of 21-10.75, while Gavin Wimstat placed fifth in Triple Jump with a mark of 42-5.75.

Owensboro finished just behind Marshall County in the 4×400 Meter Relay, grabbing second with a time of 3:23.84.

The team had set out with top-five finishing goals and Hall said that the guys stepped up when it mattered most with their best efforts of the season.

“I thought we could finish top-five, top-three,” Hall said. “I was really confident in that. Gavin PR’d in the triple jump and Ethan Pendleton finished second in the high jump. Our 4×200 team finished third which was good. We ran a PR in that. The last race of the day, our 4×400 team finished second, but hey we ran a PR of three seconds faster.”

Given that they weren’t able to have a meet last year, Hall was just really happy his team went out and battled for their seniors, sending them off the right way.

“Most of the guys did it for our seniors because they didn’t get to have a meet last year and they knew this was it for them,” Hall said. “They talked about it all year, saying “listen since this is the last time let’s go out big.’”

Daviess County girls had a pair of athletes finish in the top-five of their respective events, while placing sixth in the 4×800 Meter Relay with a time of 9:56.09.

It was Kyra Rowan and Emily Rempe both earning fifth place finishes in their events, with Rowan posting a time of 59.22 in the 400 Meter Dash and Rempe at 2:21.87 in the 800 Meter Run.

The boys also had a solid day, finishing eighth in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 8:19.65 and a trio of athletes earning top-10 finishes.
