The Owensboro Bombers grabbed its first State Championship since 2008, short-gaming Lyon County 12-1 in five innings.

The Bombers set the tone in the bottom of the first, with Braxton French singling after Harrison Bowman grounded out to start the inning.

Jordan Tolle tripled the following at-bat, putting the first run of the game on the board. The following at-bat Dan St. Claire singled to center, driving in Tolle to make it 2-0.

Following singles from Garrett Small and Cohl Proctor, Aiden Wells came through with a single of his own to make it a 3-0 Owensboro lead.

After Proctor blanked Lyon County in the top of the second, the Bombers broke things open.

Some two-out magic was the culprit in the bottom of the second, as two runs scored on a passed ball before St. Claire doubled to make it a 6-0 game.

Two walks later, Small scored on a wild pitch before Tanner Klee singled to center to take a commanding 9-0 lead for Owensboro going into the third inning.

Lyon County was able to break its scoreless streak in the third inning thanks to scoring on a passed ball, but the Bombers kept pouring it on.

Tolle homered the following inning to go up 10-1 before Owensboro grabbed two more runs to take a 12-1 lead.

This was more than enough run support for Proctor, who surrendered one hit on the day while striking out six.

This offensive display backed by Proctor’s day on the hill led to a 12-1 win for the Bombers, bringing back a State Championship to Post Nine for the first time in 13 years.

Now Owensboro will look forward to regionals, as they will hit the road to take the field in West Virginia.
