Crooked numbers from the Fulton Railroaders offense thanks to a pair of errors was the key factor in a 6-1 home loss for the Owensboro RiverDawgs.

An error came back to bite Owensboro in the top of the second, allowing Yosnell Diaz to drive in Seth Gardner to take a 1-0 lead before being thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple.

After reaching a stalemate for a few innings, fielding blunders hurt the RiverDawgs once again in the top of the fifth.

Alex Langford was hit by a pitch and then utilized his speed to make it to third and then scored with two outs in the inning thanks to an error on a fly ball from Nathan Massey.

Owensboro made up for its fielding mistakes by cutting its deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth after Bailey Falkenstein sent a moonshot to center. However, Fulton just kept pouring on the offense.

The Railroaders grabbed on in the top of the sixth on a fielder’s choice, taking a 3-1 lead with just one hit in the game. It wasn’t until the ninth that they strung together a pair of hits to put the game away.

A leadoff walk quickly led to an RBI double for Gardner, giving Fulton a 4-1 lead. The next at-bat Langford doubled to center and Gardner scored to make it a 5-1 game with no outs in the inning.

Owensboro dodged a monstrous inning by only allowing one more run via a sacrifice fly from Dorjan Berry, but it was to no avail as the RiverDawgs went down quietly in the bottom of the ninth.

The RiverDawgs pitching from Nick Belcher, Brayden Busch and Noah Cantleberry was solid and they were able to get eight hits offensively, but poor defense and the inability to string hits together resulted in the 6-1 loss.

Owensboro will get right back to action, kicking off a two-game road trip when they take on the Madisonville Miners at 6:30 p.m.
