Owensboro Catholic football is looking to grab its first win of the season this week and will be tasked with facing a strong Hancock County team on Friday night.

The Aces are coming off a tough loss at home against Louisville Christian Academy, falling 49-26.

Despite the score not being on their side, they had some positives on both sides of the ball that they can take into this week.

Senior quarterback Lincoln Clancy had another solid week, finishing with 198 yards on 8-17 passing attempts.

Sophomore Reid Clark and senior Braden Mundy were his primary targets, as Clark had three catches for 98 yards and Mundy had 54 yards on two receptions.

They will be facing a Hornets team who is coming off their first loss of the season thanks to Crittenden County.

While they only scored 14 points in their matchup last week, Hancock County’s offense is prolific, scoring at least 28 points in four of their five matchups.

The Hornets utilize junior quarterback Cole Dixon as a dual threat, averaging around 60 yards passing per game along with 38 yards per game on the ground.

The bulk of their offense comes from a dominant backfield, as junior Logan Willis averages 167 rushing yards per game. They give him ample opportunities to create offense each game, as he’s had 115 carries in five games.

Head Coach Jason Morris said that they will have to be on their toes defensively, or Dixon or Willis will have big games.

“Hancock County has a really strong, and fast fullback in a veer offense in Logan Willis,” Morris said. “Their quarterback, Cole Dixon, does a great job of managing games and can beat you with his arm and feet if you aren’t in position defensively.”

Morris said he expects a four-quarter battle between two solid teams, just like it was when Hancock County defeated them 30-29 last year.

“No turnovers on offense and keeping good eye discipline and tackling on defense [are keys to winning],” Morris said. “We are hoping to be 1-0 in district play at the end of the game.”

The Aces will look to defeat Hancock County in front of its home crowd, when they take the gridiron at 7 p.m.
