Apollo narrowly defeated Warren East with a goal as time expired on Tuesday, while Owensboro fell to Bowling Green at home.

Apollo vs. Warren East

Harrison Bowman gave the Eagles the victory on Tuesday, using a buzzer-beating goal to push them past Warren East in an offensive showcase 5-4.

Apollo and Warren East had found the back of the net four times each on the night and were going into the final minute of play with things looking like it would end in a tie.

However, after Eagles keeper Steven Taran threw the ball out and it was passed to a midfielder who played it long. Bowman then outran a defender and beat the opposing keeper to the ball and kicked it in right when time expired to give Apollo the 5-4 win.

That was Bowman’s fourth goal of the night, while Teranse Twihenya had the other goal for the Eagles.

Twihenya assisted on two goals, Bowman assisted on Twihenya’s goal and Ko Htoo and Micah Greene both recorded an assist each. Teran recorded four saves in goal.

The win moves Apollo to 7-4 overall and will look to grab its second straight win at home when they host Daviess County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro vs. Bowling Green

After a scoreless first half of play, both teams found the back of the net with Bowling Green just edging Owensboro 2-1.

The game was at a stalemate in the first half, with neither team gaining much of any traction offensively.

However, the Purples were able to put one on the board shortly into the second half courtesy of Sergio Rodriguez in the 45th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Bowling Green expanded its lead in the 55th minute thanks to a goal from Njangu Layi, taking a 2-0 lead and seemingly putting the game away.

However, Owensboro wasn’t going down without a fight, as three minutes later Peter Saang found Sang Thang who scored to cut its deficit to 2-1.

But with only five shots on goal, the Red Devils weren’t able to muster enough offense, falling 2-1.

Owensboro is now riding a four-game losing streak and will hope to get back into the win column when they make the short road trip to take on Owensboro Catholic at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
