Macey Brown continued her strong season individually by tying for third after two days in the KGCA All State Championship.

Brown got off to a decent start on day one, tying for eighth overall with a score of 74. She felt that it was a good first round, but knew she had some ground to make up.

“The first day was just ok,” Brown said. “I played solid and put myself in a good position to be able to finish in a good spot.”

On day two Brown said she got off to a rocky start, but was able to shore things up and bounce back on the back nine.

Her strong performance on the back nine allowed her to shoot a 75 and tie for third overall, finishing with an overall score of 149.

Brown said her driving and short game were key factors to her success during the weekend, saying it helped save her on a few holes.

“My drives were really good the whole weekend,” Brown said. “I was pretty much in the fairway and then my putting was very very good. That was one thing that definitely saved some of my strokes. So I would say putting and driving was probably a strongpoint. My irons were good, but they weren’t something that saved me every time.”

Brown said something that definitely needs to improve is the mental aspect of her game, as some early struggles had her a little rattled. But one she was able to gain her composure and focus, she improved and wants to build on that going forward.

“I would definitely say [a weakness] this weekend was my mental game,” Brown said. “Today on the first nine I was four over and at the turn Jarrod, my coach, was like ‘we gotta turn it around.’ So he kind of got me back in the groove and I went three under on the back and then of course it kind of blew up on the last two holes. But, I would definitely say my mentality needs to improve over the next week going into Region just a little bit so I can focus in and do what I need to do.”

Brown said in order to do that she has to focus on putting any bad shots behind and with the help of her coach Jarrod Carter she believes she’ll be able to do that.

“The best takeaway was just knowing that I could come back and finish,” Brown said. “Just like today, I shot really bad on the front but I knew I could come back and finish. So that’s one big takeaway, is to never give up. Even if you do have a few bad holes, you can always come back and turn it around and birdie a few here and there and still come out with a good score.”

Brown said that this will be huge to understand going into region play. Brown also was very appreciative of her coach, as Carter was a key part of Brown’s turnaround according to her, saying that if it wasn’t for him helping her focus it might’ve been a different story.

“I want to say thanks to my coach Jarrod,” Brown said. “If it wasn’t for him, this weekend probably would’ve been, I don’t know. He really kept me in check.”

Now Brown will turn her focus to preparing for region, as she works on her mental game and any minor details to help shave strokes off her overall score.
