Owensboro grabs comeback win over Apollo

Owensboro grabbed its second straight win on Tuesday, winning three straight sets after a slow start to defeat Apollo (22-25, 25-20, 29-27, 25-16).

Coming off of three straight losses, the E-gals looked to come out and set the tone for the match, taking the first set 25-22.

The Lady Devils quickly bounced back in the second set, knotting things up at 1-1 by winning the second set 25-20.

The third set took extra points to decide a winner, but it was ultimately Owensboro who came away victorious to win the key set and go up 2-1.

With momentum on their side, the Lady Devils were clicking on all cylinders in the fourth set, winning 25-16 to come away victorious by going 3-1 in five sets.

Owensboro was on point on the attack against the E-gals, earning 53 kills on the night. Three Lady Devils finished in double figures with kills, with junior Brooklyn Williams leading the way with 20.

Freshman Maya Joska and junior Mia Covington combined for all 40 of Owensboro’s assists, finishing 23 and 17 respectively.

Meanwhile junior Kennedy Thompson and sophomore Chase Mather led them in the digs department, combining for 52 of the team’s 101 digs by finishing with 30 and 22 respectively.

Owensboro now sits at 7-3 on the season and host Breckenridge County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in its next match. Meanwhile Apollo will look to snap its four-game losing streak at home against Henderson County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
