Daviess County’s Jersey Vanover is ready for the next step, as she has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Georgetown College.

Vanover is happy to know that this monumental decision-making process has come to a close and is excited to join Tigers track and field.

“Making the decision for college is probably one of the most important choices you’ll make in your life,” Vanover said. “Making things official at Georgetown College was a big eye opener for me, but also very exciting. It was such a relief knowing my next steps in life.”

The campus at Georgetown College played a major factor in Vanover’s decision, knowing that she would be able to create a strong relationship with her teachers and fellow students as she will study health sciences and eventually join the Physician Assistant Program.

“I chose Georgetown College because of how small the campus was,” Vanover said. “Although I am running Track and Field at GC, school comes first, so I looked deeper into the school and campus during my visit. When I went on a visit everyone was very welcoming and nice. I also liked how the classes were going to be smaller so that I have the opportunity to get one on one work with my teachers.”

Vanover was thrilled with the coaching staff’s efforts to make her feel at home and that she can make a difference in their program.

“Georgetown’s Track and Field’s coaching staff also stood out to me the most,” Vanover said. “John Teeters, the sprint coach, contacted me and never let up. He made sure I was on track and wanted to commit here weekly. He didn’t give up even when I wasn’t sure about continuing my athletic career in college. Teeters explained to me that I have the ability to be a big help to their track program, which is why I chose Georgetown’s Track and Field program.”

While she’s excited to start this next chapter of her journey athletically and academically, Vanover said that Daviess County will always be a part of her.

“The high school track team I played a part in will forever hold a special place in my heart,” Vanover said. “Some of my favorite memories with them are breaking school records, competing at state, and how close we got over the past four years. It was truly a blessing to be a part of Daviess County High school’s track team. “
