Owensboro Catholic vs. Ohio County

Owensboro Catholic volleyball came away victorious on senior night, defeating Ohio County in four sets (25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 25-19).

The Lady Aces wanted to set the tone for the match in the first set, with a hungry Ohio County team looking to defeat them on senior night.

Owensboro Catholic battled with the Lady Eagles point-for-point, but ultimately had the edge and won the opening set 25-21.

The Lady Aces carried their momentum into the second set, claiming a dominating double-digit win with a score of 25-13 to go up 2-0.

Despite being one set away from a loss, Ohio County wasn’t deterred and fought back with a 25-19 third-set win.

However, Owensboro Catholic bounced back in the final set with a 25-19 win of their own to claim the match 3-1.

It was a trio of Lady Aces that led the way in kills, as senior Cate Sights (17), Hadley Latham (7) and freshman Olivia Castlen (9) combined for 33 of the team’s 40 kills.

They were also able to record 16 aces as a team, with seven players recording at least one and six of those seven recording two or more.

Owensboro Catholic’s defense was a force to be reckoned with all night long, recording 91 digs. Junior Emily Christian led the way with 33, while junior Paige Miles (16), sophomore Kennedy Murphy (11), Sights (10) and sophomore Blair Riney (10) all finished in double figures.

Murphy and Miles also combined for 34 of the team’s 36 blocks, finishing with 19 and 15 respectively.

The win extends the Lady Aces winning streak to five games and moves them to 16-5 overall as they have a quick turnaround and will host Daviess County at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Trinity vs. Evansville Christian

The Lady Raiders needed an extra set on Monday night to defeat Evansville Christian (20-25, 25-23, 25-13, 23-25, 15-6) and extend its winning streak to seven games.

With its back against the wall Evansville Christian didn’t fold and forced a fifth set, earning its second win of the night at a score of 25-23.

Evansville Christian was able to carry over its success from the fourth set to end the match, as Trinity won 15-6 and walked away with the 3-2 win.

Senior Cassidy Morris led the Lady Raiders in kills with 19, while sophomore Hannah Nash was second with 11.
