Boys soccer recap (Oct. 11): AHS, DCHS

Apollo and Daviess County boys soccer advanced to the 3rd Region semifinals on Monday, defeating Muhlenberg County and Grayson County.

Apollo vs Muhlenberg County

The Eagles were able to gain momentum early, as a penalty kick led to a goal for senior Harrison Bowman to take a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.

This gave Apollo the edge in the first half, as they headed into halftime in charge with a 1-0 lead over the Stallions.

The game reached a bit of a stalemate in the second half, but the Eagles expanded on their lead late to secure the win.

Apollo went up 2-0 in the 72nd minute thanks to an own goal by Muhlenberg County and Bowman came through again in the 76th minute to secure the 3-0 win.

Bowman led the way with a pair of goals, while senior Ko Htoo recorded the lone assist for the Eagles. Junior Steven Teran helped secure the shutout, making two saves on the night.

Apollo will now make its way to the 3rd Region semifinals and will take on Meade County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Daviess County vs. Grayson County

Daviess County used a strong second half to nearly mercy rule Grayson County in the first round of the 3rd Region Tournament, 9-0.

The Panthers opened up the scoring in this one, as junior Sean Higgs scored in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Minutes later junior Hayden Boswell expanded on their lead, making it 2-0.

Daviess County walked into halftime in charge and came out of it ready to attack offensively and put the game away.

Less than a minute into the second half Boswell grabbed his second goal of the game, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

The flood gates opened at this time, as Daviess County went on to score six more unanswered goals.

Boswell finished with a hat trick, while junior Dax Sandifer and junior Ahmed Abdullahi scored a pair of goals and junior Nate Dailey had one.

Daviess County now moves to the semifinals in which they will take on Ohio County at 5:30 on Tuesday.
