Owensboro Catholic top Lady Raiders in regular season finale

Lady Aces volleyball closed out the regular season with a clean sweep on Saturday, defeating Trinity (Whitesville) (25-21, 25-22, 25-12).

Owensboro Catholic came out looking to take control of the match early, battling it out with the Lady Raiders en route to a 25-21 win.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the second set, as Trinity battled hoping to even up the match at 1-1. However, the Lady Aces stayed strong and closed out the set with a 25-22 win to go up 2-0.

With all momentum on their side, Owensboro Catholic was clicking on all cylinders and won the final set 25-12 to secure the 3-0 sweep.

Senior Cate Sights led the way offensively with 17 kills, while freshman Olivia Castlen (8), junior Abigail Williams (7), junior Paige Miles (6) and senior Hadley Latham (6) followed closely behind.

Sophomore Kennedy Murphy (25) and Miles (19) combined to set up the offense all game long, recording 44 of the team’s 45 assists.

The Lady Aces covered the floor well all night, led by senior Emily Christian with 25 digs. Sophomore Blair Riney (14), Murphy (14) and Sights (11) all finished in double figures with digs as well.

Senior Cassidy Morris led the way offensively with 10 kills, while junior Josie Aull dished out 26 assists in the game. Aull also chipped in 10 digs, while sophomore Georgia Howard led the way defensively with 12 digs.

The win has Owensboro Catholic closing out the regular season at 24-11 overall, while finishing with a region record of 13-3 and a district record of 4-2.

Meanwhile, Trinity now sits at 23-5 while owning a region record of 16-4 and a district record of 6-0 to close out the regular season.
