Apollo and Owensboro volleyball split its first two games on day one of the Quad State Tournament on Friday.

Apollo vs. Germantown & Logan County

The E-gals sit at 1-1 in the Quad State Tournament after day one, defeating Germantown before falling to Logan County in two sets

Apollo came out the gates and set the tone for the match against Germantown to start the day, coming away with a 25-19.

The E-gals kept their momentum going in the second set to claim the first match of the day, defeating Germantown 25-21 for the 2-0 win.

Apollo didn’t fare as well in its second match of the day, falling 2-0 to Logan County to move to 1-1 in the tournament.

The E-gals weren’t as successful in the opening set against Logan County, as they weren’t able to stifle Logan County’s offense en route to a 25-10 loss.

Apollo fought tooth and nail to stay alive and force a third set, but Logan County came away with a 25-20 to sweep the E-gals.

Senior Havanah John led the way offensively for Apollo, recording 13 kills as the only player finishing in double figures on the day.

Sophomore Ahalia Ramirez helped set up the vast majority of the team’s kills, recording a team-leading 14 assists.

Sophomore Kaley Dickinson led the way defensively with 25 digs, while senior Abby Spong also finished in double figures with 12 digs.

Owensboro vs. Mayfield & Caldwell County

Owensboro ended day one of the Quad State Tournament at 1-1 overall, defeating Mayfield before falling to Caldwell County.

The Lady Devils came out strong in the first set against Mayfield, looking to set the tone for the match with a 25-20 win.

Owensboro carried its momentum into the second set, grabbing a 25-23 victory to secure the 2-0 match win.

The Lady Devils fought to the final point in the second match of the day, but fell to Caldwell County in three sets.

Caldwell County came out of the gates looking to put Owensboro away early, defeating them in the first set 25-20.

Determined to start the tournament 2-0, the Lady Devils fought back in the second set and won 25-19 to even things up at 1-1.

It took extra points to determine the winner, but Caldwell County bounced back in the third set and won 17-15 to put away Owensboro.

Junior Mia Covington led the way offensively on the day with 12 kills, while junior Brooklyn Williams finished right behind with 10 kills.

Freshman Maya Joska helped set up a lot of the Lady Devils’ kills with 14 assists on the day, while freshman Ava Fincher recorded eight assists.

Junior Kennedy Thompson led the way defensively with 27 digs, while sophomore Chase Mather finished with 16 and Joska finished with 11 digs on the day.
