Looking to make their way back to the state championship game, Owensboro will go to battle with Frederick Douglass on Friday.

Owensboro is coming off of a dominant performance against Bullitt Central, winning 56-12.

The Red Devils offense put on a clinic against Bullitt Central, with senior Tramel Barksdale leading the way.

Barksdale ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, while junior Kenyatta Carbon followed right behind out of the backfield with 72 yards and a touchdown on two carries.

Junior quarterback Kasey Boone had a strong game under center, throwing for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 4-9 passing.

His primary target was junior Jeremiah Goodwin, who had one catch for 67 yards and a touchdown on the night.

Meanwhile, Frederick Douglass is coming off of a strong 37-6 win over Southwestern.

The Broncos thrive on a strong passing game, with senior quarterback Samuel Cornett under center.

Cornett averages 193 passing yards and two touchdowns a game, with senior Dane Key being his primary receiver with 66.3 receiving yards per game.

Frederick Douglass also utilizes a trio of running backs in its offense, as juniors Davaun Hart (45.4 rpg), TJ Horton (37.4 rpg) and Ty Bryant (22.5 rpg) all average a touchdown per game.

The Broncos defense has also stifled opposing offenses all year long, only allowing double-digits three times this season. They’ve also only allowed more than 14 points once this year.

Owensboro will look to limit mistakes on both sides of the ball, while looking to put pressure on Cornett in the pocket to throw off Frederick Douglass’ offense.

Offensively, it’s likely they will stick to the ground game with Barksdale and Carbon, opening things up for Boone and his receiving core as well.

The Red Devils will take on the Broncos looking to secure their spot in the state championship at 6 p.m. on Friday.
