Defeating their opponents by 80 or more in the boys and girls scores, Daviess County handily won the 2021 City-County Championship for the second year in a row.
The Lady Panthers posted a score of 187, while Owensboro finished with a 99, Owensboro Catholic finished with a 95 and Apollo finished with a 54.
The girls team had a number of notable finishes during the meet. In the Girls 200 Yard IM Ella Johnson posted the No. 1 time with 2:17.57, while teammates Keely Mattingly (fifth) Alaina Mason (sixth) and Kami Mattingly (seventh) all finished in top-10 as well. Ella also grabbed first place in the Girls 100 Yard Free, posting a time of 56.08.
Nya Hammons grabbed first place for Daviess County in the Girls 500 Yard Free with a time of 5:49.05, Kaydeon Mattingly placed first in the Girls 100 Yard Back with a time of 1:06.63 and Ellie Girten earned first in the Girls 100 Yard Fly with a time of 1:12.54.
They also won the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay and Girls 400 Yard Free Relay as well, posting times of 2:02.34 and 4:01.39 respectively.
The boys team finished with an overall score of 187 as well, while Owensboro finished with a 105, Apollo finished with an 82 and Owensboro Catholic finished with a 52.
A number of athletes earned first-place finishes in the boys group, such as Gabriel Neves, Samuel Smith, Trevor Church, Shiloh Sumner. Neves, Smith and Church dominated amongst the competition, grabbing two first-place finishes each.
They also won multiple relays finishing first in the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay and the Boys 400 Yard Free Relay with times of 1:53.61 and 3:45.24 respectively.
Combine these two team scores and Daviess County claimed the City-County Championship with an overall score of 374, giving. Owensboro placed second with an overall score of 204, Owensboro Catholic earned third with a score of 147 and Apollo placed fourth with a score of 136.
