Putting on a show in the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers tore apart Lyon County en route to a 62-40 victory in the opening game of the West Kentucky Hoops Classic.
The game got off to a slow start, as Daviess County got out to a narrow 10-6 lead after the first quarter of play.
Holding the Lady Lyons to single digits again in the second quarter, freshman Lily Hoagland and senior Ella Payne combined for 11 of the 14 to help extend the Lady Panthers lead to 24-12 at halftime.
Lyon County came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders offensively, as they put up 25 points to even things up at 37-37 going into the fourth quarter.
While the Lady Lyons seemed to be roaring back for a comeback win, Daviess County’s defense had other ideas.
The Lady Panthers were able to hold Lyon County to just three points in the fourth, scoring 25 points en route to a 62-40 blowout win.
Hoagland led the way with 16 points, while senior Katie Mewes was close behind with 15 points. Payne finished with 11 points, while freshman Zoey Beehn also chipped in 10 points.
Daviess County was able to grab the win without its leading scorer and starting point guard in junior Adylan Ayer, as she did not dress on Monday.
The win for the Lady Panthers extends their winning streak to three straight, as they now sit at 7-4 overall on the season.
