Apollo vs. Lyon County

Putting on an offensive clinic, senior guard Amaya Curry reached the 1,000 point mark in her career while helping push Apollo past Lyon County 80-46.

The E-gals came out of the gate looking to control the game, not allowing the Lady Lyons to get anything going offensively.

Senior Rose Smith and junior Ella Defew were the only ones able to score Lyon County in the quarter, giving Apollo a 17-9 lead going into the second.

The E-gals expanded on their lead in the second quarter, thanks to plenty of offense from Curry—who had surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her career with four points in the first quarter—and senior Shelbie Beatty.

Their play along with another single-digit quarter for the Lady Lyons sent Apollo into the second half holding onto a 38-18 lead.

Lyon County didn’t struggle as much offensively in the second half, but they had no answer for the E-gals. Their offense had 10 different players finish with a point, as Apollo waltzed its way to an 80-46 victory.

Beatty led the way for the E-gals with 21 points, while Curry (18) and sophomore Jenna Dant (15) all finished in double figures.

Apollo’s win moves them to 2-1, as they get a few days off before taking Webster County at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Daviess County vs. Pulaski County

The Lady Panthers offense struggled in the second and third quarter in their Lady Mustang Classic matchup, as Pulaski County earned a 53-29 victory.

Daviess County got off to a solid start offensively, going into the second quarter owning an 11-9 lead. However, Pulaski County silenced them for the next two quarters.

It was a defensive showdown overall in the second quarter, as the Lady Maroons outscored the Lady Panthers 5-2. This gave Pulaski County a 14-13 lead going into the third quarter, but they quickly expanded on the lead coming out of the locker room.

Sophomore Sydney Martin helped Pulaski County jump out to 20 points in the quarter, tallying 12 while hitting two from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile Daviess County was only able to score two points in the quarter, as senior Katie Mewes was the only one able to score.

Trailing 34-15 going into the fourth, the Lady Panthers had too much ground to make up offensively, falling 53-29.

Freshman Zoey Beehn was the only player to score more than five points for Daviess County, finishing with 11 to lead the way.

The loss is the second straight for the Lady Panthers, as they will now look to regroup before hitting the road to take on University Heights Academy on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Trinity vs. Calloway County

Unable to stifle the Lady Lakers offense, Trinity fell for the second straight game in a row by a score of 65-48.

Calloway County got off to a strong start, getting a pair of triples from freshman Madison Futrell to outscore the Lady Raiders 14-9 after the first quarter.

Trinity bounced back in the second quarter as senior Cassidy Morris and junior Josie Aull combined for all but two of its 16 points. They were able to limit the Lady Lakers to 13, but still trailed going into the second half 27-25.

Futrell got hot from beyond the arc again in the third quarter, helping Calloway County outscore the Lady Raiders 16-10 in the third to go up 43-35.

Trinity tried to make up some ground in the fourth quarter, but was unable to do so as the Lady Lakers offense exploded. Outscored 22-13 in the fourth quarter, Calloway County walked away with a 65-48 win.

Morris led all scorers with 20 points on the night, while Aull (12) was the only player to score in double figures for the Lady Raiders.

Trinity now sits at 1-2 overall on the season and will look to bounce back when they take on Breckinridge County on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Bullitt East

Unable to muster up much offense throughout the night, Bullitt East was able to remain consistent and walk away with a 60-44 win.

The Lady Aces struggled in the first and fourth quarter of the game, only tallying eight points in each quarter.

Owensboro Catholic was able to correct its offensive woes in the second and third quarters putting up 14 points each. However, they were unable to stop Bullitt East’s consistent offensive attack, falling 60-44.

Freshman Karmin Riley led the way for the Lady Aces offensively, finishing as the only player in double figures with 14 points.

Now sitting at 0-2 to start the season, Owensboro Catholic will look to get in the win column when they take on Meade County at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
