After another strong year to close out her high school career, Macey Brown has earned the title of The Owensboro Times 2021 Girls Golf Player of the Year.
“I was pretty happy with how I played this season other than a couple of tournaments,” Brown said. “Overall I am satisfied with the scores I put out. Player of the year is something that I honor greatly. It’s a big accomplishment and I strive to receive it each year.”
Brown helped continue the recent success the Apollo girls golf program has had in recent years, earning a seventh place finish in the 2nd Region Tournament to qualify for state. There Brown earned a third place finish, putting on a bow on a successful career with the E-gals.
Brown’s goal was to really enjoy her senior season and was able to do so while having success like she had in previous years.
“My goal this season was to play relaxed and calm,” Brown said. “Not to chase after anything especially after last year. I wanted to repeat some of my accomplishments from last year as well.”
Brown said she will always cherish her senior year, especially since she was able to get to spend it with her biggest cheerleaders by her side—Head Coach Jarrod Carter and her dad.
Brown gave credit to God and as well as her coaches and family for helping her grow into the golfer that she has become today.
“My coaches have definitely made me into the player I am with the help of God,” Brown said. “My dad has made a huge impact on the athlete I am and always pushed me to my limits. Jarrod was always there to help in any way, and my swing coach Mike taught me everything I needed to know about a golf swing.”
Now Brown is moving on to the next level, as she will continue her athletic career at the University of Indianapolis. But first, she wanted to thank all of those that have helped her during her time at Apollo.
“I want to thank everyone who was a part of my high school golf journey,” Brown said. “My mom for being so supportive, Jarrod and Mike for coaching me through not only golf but life, [and] my dad for always being there and making me the best I can be.”
