After leading in the second and third quarter Daviess County couldn’t seal the deal on Monday, as they were held to single digits in the fourth and fell 59-52 to Henderson County.

Thanks to eight points from senior Max Dees in the first quarter, the Panthers got off to a strong start offensively. But the Colonels were firing out of the gate as well, battling to take a 15-14 lead into the second.

Daviess County flipped a switch to change momentum in the second quarter, as an advantage behind the arc helped them outscore Henderson County and take a 30-28 lead at halftime.

After a strong first half for the Colonels, junior Gerard Thomas picked up right where left off by scoring 10 points in the third quarter. However, not getting enough help from his supporting cast, Henderson County found themselves trailing the Panthers 43-42 going into the fourth.

Daviess County’s offensive prowess was stifled in the fourth, as the Colonels held them to single digits while Thomas continued to pile it on. The junior guard added seven of his team’s 17, putting a bow on a 59-52 win for Henderson County.

Thomas led all scorers on the night with 28 points, while senior Damarius Dixon was the only other player to finish in double figures for the Colonels with 12 points.

Dees led the way for Daviess County with 17 points, while fellow senior Davant McCampbell also finished in double figures with 12 points.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Panthers, as they fall to 8-10 overall before they are set for a district duel with Owensboro at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
