Red Devils and Panthers boys have strong finish in regional track meet

Owensboro and Daviess County boys track had strong days in the First Region Track Meet on Tuesday, grabbing second and third respectively with multiple top finishes.

The Red Devils earned second place with a final score of 106, finding themselves 24 points behind the champion Marshall County team. There was a bit of separation between second and third place, as the Panthers finished with a total score of 79.

Apollo finished ninth as a team with a final score of 23, with Thomas Ashby’s first-place finishes in the 1600 (4:29.09) and the 3200 (9:52.23) led the way.

Owensboro boys dominated the relays on Tuesday, grabbing first in the 4×100 and 4×200 with times of 43.45 and 1:31.35 respectively. Owensboro also had four first place finishes individually, as eighth grader King Combest (10.91) won the 100 yard dash, Reece Caroll (22.80) won the 200 yard dash, Ethan Pendleton (6-02.00) won the high jump and Maurice Moorman (21-03.00) won the long jump.

Daviess County boys finished third in the 4×400 and fourth in the 4×800 relay, while Max Dees was the only one to win an event individually. Dees grabbed the triple jump medal, finishing at 41-01.00.

Daviess County girls followed with an eighth place finish (24), while the E-gals finished fifth (52) and Owensboro finished fourth (62). The Lady Devils grabbed second place finishes in the 4×100, 4×200 and the 4×800 relay, while Chandler Worth had the highest finish individually at second in the pole vault (8-06.00).

The E-gals had a strong day as a team, grabbing a first-place finish in the 4×100 meter relay (51.32) and second in the 4×400 meter relay (4:21.61).
