High school track season wraps up at 3A State Track Meet

Local students from Apollo, Owensboro and Daviess County competed in the 2022 State Track Meet in Lexington, Kentucky last weekend, with a number of top-15 finishes.

Owensboro had the strongest performance of all the local teams, finishing 25th in boys while Apollo boys was behind them at 37th. Daviess County didn’t compete as a team for the boys, but did have Nolan Kurz finish 14th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.31.

Following a dominant showing in the middle school state track meet, King Combest followed it up with a strong day amongst high school competition. He finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.88, while helping them grab sixth in the 4×200 meter relay (1.29.84) alongside Dartex Basham, Reece Carroll, Eli Early and Xander Early and 11th in the 4×100 (44.23) alongside Xander Early, Javius Taylor, Khalil Rogers.

Apollo boys lone top-ten finisher came from cross country region runner-up Thomas Ashby, who finished sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:29.46 to help them place 37th.

Apollo girls finished 32nd as a team, led by their fifth place finish in the 4×100 meter relay (50.50) thanks to Emily Bertke, Carlie Murphy, Taraya Thompson and Analea Sanders. Sanders also had top-15 finish on the day, grabbing 14th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.91.

Daviess County girls tied for 41st overall with Butler, getting its points from the seventh place finish in the 4×800 meter relay thanks to Lucy Spaw, Bentlei Stallings, Blakely Greer and Emily Rempe.
