After stellar 2021-22 campaigns, Owensboro Catholic’s Luke Evans and Sam McFarland and Apollo’s Harrison Bowman were recognized with All-State honors.

Evans was a dominant force for the Aces all season long, proving to be a crucial senior leader while posting three home runs and 29 RBIs to go with his .486 batting average and 38 stolen bases (40 attempts). His efforts earned him a spot on the All-State First Team.

“Earning First Team All-State means so much to me,” Evans said. “That was my only individual goal I had this year and to be able to accomplish that feels amazing.”

Evans felt like this was nice sort of send-off for him as he prepares for the next step in his career at Wabash Valley College, but made sure to thank all of those who has helped him reach this level of success.

“This is definitely a nice way to wrap up my baseball career at Owensboro Catholic,” Evans said “It feels good to know that I had a good enough season to be considered one of the best 18 players in the commonwealth this year. This might be an individual award, but I could not have done it by myself. My teammates, coaches, and mentors have pushed and guided me to where I am today”

McFarland followed right behind with a spot on the All-State Third Team, as he hit .345 with 28 RBIs and 11 stolen bases on the season. He was also strong on the mound for Owensboro Catholic, posting a 4-0 record with one save and a 3.05 ERA in 12 games on the mound (nine starts) in his final season before going to play for Kentucky Wesleyan.

Bowman came back for a fifth season to close out his strong career for the Eagles, earning an All-State Honorable Mention thanks to a whopping .510 batting average, five home runs and 25 RBIs. Bowman also got 22 steals on 27 attempts, helping him grab his 70th stolen base of his career to claim the all-time stolen base record at Apollo.

“It’s pretty cool to know that other coaches chose and view me as one of the top players in the state of Kentucky regardless of having fallen short in the regional tournament,” Bowman said.

And while Bowman is thrilled to close out his baseball career with an All-State honor, he’s ready to get right back to work for football and baseball when he continues his playing days collegiately at Missouri Western.

“Yes in a way it feels good to end my high school career the way I did,” Bowman said. “But I’m far away from the places I desire to go and there is still plenty of work to be done.”
