Owensboro was the lone boys soccer team locally to grab a win on Saturday, while Owensboro Catholic, Apollo and Daviess County all suffered losses on the day.

Owensboro Catholic vs Bethlehem

The Aces fell just short at All-A State on Saturday, with a late goal from Bethlehem leading to a 1-0 loss.

Owensboro Catholic managed to keep Bethlehem off of the board until the final five minutes of the game thanks to senior keeper Parker Jones’ seven saves. But with two minutes to spare, Bethlehem scored on a volley thanks to a corner kick to give them the 1-0 win.

The Aces fall to 8-5-3 overall with the loss, as they now turn their focus toward a matchup with Hopkinsville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Apollo vs North Hardin, Bowling Green

Apollo struggled to muster up enough offense in a home doubleheader on Saturday, falling to North Hardin and Bowling Green.

The Eagles took on North Hardin to start the day, as senior keeper Steven Teran made five saves but was unable to stop the opposing offense in a 5-0 loss. Apollo’s luck didn’t change in game two, as Bowling Green also overpowered them in a 7-0 loss to close out the day.

The Eagles fall to 8-12 overall with the loss, now taking a few days off before returning home to host Muhlenberg County at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro vs Hopkins County Central

The Red Devils were clicking on all cylinders on Saturday, defeating Hopkins County Central 7-0 in their second to last home game.

Owensboro was led by senior Aiden Frego’s pair of goals and three assists on the day, while junior Sang Thang added a pair of goals as well. Junior Peter Saang and sophomore Ryan Sovar had a goal and an assist each, while senior Zach West connected with senior Jacob O’Bryan for a goal as well.

Daviess County vs Ryle

The Panthers were unable to come away with the win in their lone matchup due to weather in the Bruin Classic, falling to Ryle.

Both teams went into halftime without a goal, seemingly setting the game up to down to the wire. However, a penalty kick for Ryle in the 59th minute was the difference maker, as Daviess County fell 1-0.

The Panthers fall to 13-4-1 overall with the loss, as they will look to bounce back in their final regular season game on Tuesday against South Warren at 7 p.m.
