Girls soccer recap (Sept. 20): AHS, OCHS

Apollo and Owensboro Cathlolic’s girls soccer teams were on fire Tuesday, as they grabbed 10 goals each in their wins against McLean County and Ohio County respectively.

Apollo vs. McLean County

The E-gals bounced back from a 10-0 loss on Sept. 13 with a 10-0 win on Tuesday, defeating McLean County on the road.

Junior Emma Edens led the offense with a hat trick, while also dishing out three assists. Senior Kaylee Hall, Eh Htoo, sophomore Kara Green, senior Aleia Henderson and freshman Dalleigh Sullivan all recorded a goal, while Hall, Htoo and Green all had an assist each as well.

Freshman Becca Jones was able to nab three saves in the game, helping close the door on the shutout victory. Apollo sits at 4-9-1 overall with the win, now taking a few days off before returning home to take on South Warren at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro Catholic vs Ohio County

Owensboro Catholic defeated Ohio County in a 2021 Third Region semifinal rematch on Tuesday, clicking on all cylinders in a 10-0 win on senior night.

Senior Maddie Hayden led the offense with a hat trick in the game, while junior Ginny Young followed right behind her with a pair. Junior Mallary Bailey, junior Jahaira Ward, sophomore Aubrey Randolph, senior Rachel Traylor and sophomore Carmen Brauer all got one each.

Senior Katie Riney distributed the ball with the three assists, while Hayden, Bailey, Traylor, Randolph, Young, junior Annie Helwig and junior keeper Abby Payne all recorded an assist each. Payne also recorded her ninth shutout of the season in net, helping Owensboro Catholic improve to 11-3-1 overall going into a All-A Classic State Tournament matchup with Lexington Christian at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24.
