Daviess County and McCracken County enter this district battle following big wins last Friday night. Each team will look to replicate these performances to stay undefeated in district play at Reid Stadium this Friday.

The Panthers are coming off a dominant performance on all three phases last Friday night, defeating Marshall County 57-0. The Daviess County offense was clicking on all cylinders, tallying 467 total yards and six touchdowns.

The Panthers were led by senior running back Bryson Parm who rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Daviess County has continued to steadily improve on the offensive side of the ball this season, but head coach Matt Brannon understands his offense will be put to the test this week against the Mustangs.

“We must be efficient on offense,” Brannon said. “We have to eliminate negative plays and penalties and we cannot do things that get us behind the chains.”

Although the Mustangs have had their way with Daviess County historically, the Panthers got the better of them twice last season. DC got their first ever regular season win against McCracken County and then defeated them again in the first round of the KHSAA playoffs 55-31.

McCracken County is coming off a big district win of their own, beating Apollo 34-14. The Mustangs are 2-4 on the season but have played a difficult schedule and are much improved from a season ago.

“McCracken County is much better than their record shows,” Brannon said. “They have dominated our district over the last decade, and we expect nothing less than their best when they travel to us Friday.”

The Mustangs are led by experienced senior quarterback Pryor Lamb, who has recorded 785 passing yards and six touchdowns on the season.

“They are athletic in all skill positions, their line is big and physical, and the running back is solid,” Brannon said. “Lamb is easily one of the top 2 QBs we’ve faced all season.”

This is a big game not only because of the rivalry, but also because the outcome of this one will greatly determine the Class 6A District 1 standings heading into the playoffs. With a district win on the line, these two will come plenty prepared for their kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

“Our preparation and focus in practice must be sharp all week,” Brannon said. “We have to focus on details and fundamentals, because little things in games like this can be the difference.”
