Panthers finish second at 2nd Region Boys Golf Tournament, Cecil and Payne qualify individually

Daviess County finished second place behind Ohio County in the 2nd Region Boys Golf Tournament on Monday, with a pair of local golfers advancing individually.

The Panthers shot a 316 as a team, led by Grant Broughton’s 71 (second place individually) finishing nine strokes out of first place as a team. Logan Mewes and Hayden Sapp followed suit with both shooting an 81, while Grayson Powers shot an 83 and Dawson Lamb shot an 85 to round out the team score.

By placing second as a team Daviess County will head to state for the second straight year, with Broughton heading back to improve on his ninth place finish in his freshman season.

Owensboro Catholic finished with a 326, with JT Payne’s 77 leading the way and helping him qualify to compete at state individually. Apollo’s Trevor Cecil will join him, having shot a 76 while the Eagles finished with a 367.

Owensboro finished with a 347 team score, with Will Hume’s 81 leading the way. Trinity (Whitesville) shot a 410 as a team, with Gavin Howard shooting a 78 to lead the Raiders.
