Owensboro improved to 3-0 on Friday night with another dominant win over Christian County, while Apollo wasn’t able to muster up enough offense in a road loss to South Warren.

Apollo vs South Warren

Senior Gracie Hodges was too much for the E-gals on Friday night, as her 20-point performance helped South Warren defeat them at home 43-36.

Both teams got off to a slow start, with Apollo taking a narrow 7-6 lead following the first quarter. But it was the Lady Spartans who had the edge in the second quarter, as seven points from Hodges and a pair of threes from senior Lydia Frank led to a 21-17 halftime lead.

The E-gals weren’t done though, as they came out the locker room looking to reclaim momentum. They were able to hold South Warren to just six points in the quarter, hitting double digits on the offensive side of the ball to knot things up at 27-27 going into the fourth.

Apollo didn’t have the same luck in the final quarter of play though, as the Lady Spartans were able to find a rhythm offensively. Doing so while holding the E-gals to single digits in the fourth, South Warren was able to close the door on a 43-36 win.

Freshman Kennedy Lane was the only player to score more than five points for Apollo on Friday night, finishing with 13. The E-gals are still searching for their first win of the year, as they will get back to work on Saturday when they take on Butler at 4:30 p.m. at the Sportscenter.

Owensboro vs Christian County

The Lady Devils stayed undefeated on Friday night to close out the week, winning by at least 20 points for the third straight game against Christian County 53-30 in the Independence Bank Tip-off Classic.

It was a slow start for both teams in the first half, but it was Owensboro’s defense that helped them take a 22-11 win into the locker room. The Lady Devils were able to build onto its lead coming out of halftime with the help of junior guard A’Lyrica Hughes, as she grabbed 14 of her 25 points on the night in the second half.

With her scoring and Owensboro limiting the Lady Colonels to 19 points in the second half, the Lady Devils were able to wrap up a 53-30 win to move to 3-0. Hughes led all scorers on the night with her season high of 25, while senior CJ Paige also added nine points for Owensboro.

The Lady Devils are currently riding a three-game winning streak to start the year, as they now will take the weekend off before returning home to host Muhlenberg County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
