A rough third quarter came back to bite Trinity (Whitesville) on Monday night, as they were unable to slow down Hancock County and fell on the road 64-53.

The Raiders got off to a decent start with four points each from seniors Landon Smith and Landon Huff, but a pair of threes for the Hornets helped them jump out to an 18-13 lead going into the second. Trinity was able to limit Hancock County to 11 points in the following quarter, but were only able to get 10 themselves from Smith (five) and senior Nolan Mills (five)  to head into halftime trailing 29-23.

The Raiders luck didn’t change much coming out of the locker room, as they were held to single digits while senior Kaleb Keown gave the Hornets 10 of their 20 in the quarter to make it a 49-32 game going into the fourth. Trinity bounced back for its best quarter of the night offensively in the fourth, getting a combined 17 points from senior Gavin Howard (10) and senior Nick Goetz (seven).

But it was too little too late, as Hancock County scored 15 to seal the 64-53 win. Howard led the Raiders with 16 points on the night, while Smith followed with nine.

Trinity falls to 9-7 overall with the loss, as they return to action on the road Tuesday at 7:30 against Cloverport.
