Errors came back to bite Trinity (Whitesville) on Thursday, falling to Butler County 5-3.

The Lady Raiders looked to set the tone for the game early on, grabbing the lead in the top of the second thanks singles from junior Georgia Howard and senior Allie Graham. An inning later a Butler County error and a double from senior Abby Payne kickstarted Trinity once again, getting a sacrifice fly from seventh grader Sophie Hatfield and another run on the second error of the inning to take a 3-0 lead.

However, a Lady Raider error in the bottom of the third led to a rally from the Lady Bears, as they grabbed two runs in the inning. Butler County took advantage of two more Lady Raiders errors in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two more to claim a 4-3 lead.

The Lady Bears got one more on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth and Trinity’s offense never got going again, ultimately falling 5-3. Graham handled the first three innings in her start, allowing four unearned runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out a pair.

Hatfield took the last three innings of the game, allowing one unearned run on one hit, while walking and striking out a pair. Hatfield and Graham also led the way at the plate, tallying the lone RBIs of the contest.

Trinity falls to 4-6 overall with the loss, as they now look ahead to their first Grand Strand Softball Classic matchup against Randolph at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 3.
