It came down to who had the stronger performance from their bullpen on Wednesday night between the Aces and Meade County, as a pair of runs in the last two innings gave the Green Wave the 6-4 road win over Owensboro Catholic.

The Aces grabbed control of the game early, taking advantage of three Meade County errors in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead despite just one hit in the inning. However, walks came back to bite Owensboro Catholic in the bottom half of the inning, as three of them led to an RBI double, an RBI groundout, a run walked in and an RBI single to give the Green Wave a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the second.

A pair of singles was able to give the Aces a quick response though, as a single from sophomore Brady Atwell led to a two-out RBI single from junior Deuce Sims to even things up at 4-4 after two. The game then reached a bit of a stalemate, as neither team was able to score during the next three innings of play.

But after a clean fifth inning for eighth grader Lane Hundley, he didn’t have the same luck in the sixth and seventh. He allowed a run in each inning, surrendering three hits and two walks while striking out two in his three innings of relief.

The pair of runs was all that senior Levi Triplett needed to close the door, allowing no runs and no hits to earn the 6-4 victory despite giving up four walks.

Senior Jamison Wall handled the first four innings on the night for the Aces, allowing four runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out three. Sims led the way at the late plate for Owensboro Catholic, earning the lone RBI of the day.

The Aces sit at 1-2 with their second straight loss, as they’ll look to bounce back against Pleasure Ridge Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in their first game of the Greenwood High School Hot Rods Classic.
