Apollo and Daviess County are still searching for their first win of the season, while Owensboro Catholic fights to keep their win streak alive. Owensboro travels to Graves while Apollo plays at home against Muhlenberg, Catholic plays at home against Henderson and Daviess County plays at home against Meade.
Muhlenberg County, 3-1 (Class 5A, District 1)
at Apollo, 0-4 (Class 5A, District 1)
Highlights
After four tough losses, the Eagles look to turn their season around with this game. The Mustangs are currently on a two-game run, so it will take an effort from Apollo to stop their momentum.
Last week
Muhlenberg: Won 28-14 against Ohio County
Apollo: Lost 7-57 against Bowling Green
AHS head coach John Edge’s thoughts:
Muhlenberg’s strengths are in their run game. We have to stop their run game to have a chance to win the game. I think once we get that win under our belts we will start gaining confidence. I’ve coached teams 1-3 and ended up in the state championship. It’s a confidence thing at this point.
Owensboro, 1-3 (Class 5A, District 1)
at Graves County, 2-2 (Class 5A, District 1)
Highlights
The Red Devils fought with tenacity last week against Catholic, and they’ll have to do so again this week to get back on the winning track. Graves’ quarterback Kaden Gregory is coming into this game off a 9-11 passing performance from last week, so the OHS defense will have to shut him down before he can get things moving for the Eagles.
Last Week
Owensboro: Lost 28-33 against Owensboro Catholic
Graves: Won 48-0 against Caldwell
OHS head coach Jay Fallin’s thoughts:
Graves County is a very solid, well-coached football team. They return alot from a team that was rebuilding last year and we need to be prepared for a tough game.
I was concerned we might have a sluggish week of practice after last week’s emotional battle with Catholic, but the guys have responded well. I feel we are prepared and have had a good week of practice. We need to limit mistakes and play clean football for 48 minutes.
Henderson County, 1-3 (Class 6A, District 1)
at Owensboro Catholic, 4-0 (Class 2A, District 2)
Highlights
Owensboro Catholic are running riot through their schedule so far, and hope to continue to do so against Henderson. The recent form from Aces quarterback Brady Atwell and wide receiver Tutt Carrico will be on Henderson’s radar, so the Aces have to be just as prepared as the Colonels.
Last week
Henderson: Lost 27-42 against Paducah Tilghman
Owensboro Catholic: Won 33-28 against Owensboro
OCHS head coach Jason Morris’s thoughts:
We are focused and we will have the same mentality this week as any other. Their quarterback and running back have good speed and agility, and their defensive line plays really hard, so we will have to protect our quarterback and limit their run game.
Meade County, 3-1 (Class 6A, District 3)
at Daviess County, 0-4 (Class 6A, District 1)
Highlights
Daviess County will be hard pressed to get the first win of the season under their belts. After last week’s match against North Hardin, the Panthers are finding a little bit more success in finding the endzone. They will have to continue to make big plays if they are to win against a 3-1 Green Wave’s team.
Last week
Meade: Won 32-25 against Central Hardin
Daviess County: Lost 16-45 against North Hardin
DCHS head coach Matt Brannon’s thoughts:
Meade is much improved from our last two meetings and they seem very comfortable in the spread offense. They create turnovers and we must be able to limit our mistakes against a very opportunistic team.
We must capitalize off the momentum we were able to build last week against North Hardin. Our defense kept us in the game and gave us great field position all night. We must play better on special teams and continue to find ways to maximize our offensive production.
