District play kicked off today as Apollo hosted Owensboro Catholic. Meanwhile, Daviess County traveled across the state border to take on Castle, IN and Owensboro hosted McLean County.
OCHS 1, AHS 0
In the first district game of the season, Owensboro Catholic took home the close 1-0 win.
The winning run came early in the game as Apollo’s Noah Cook quickly got 2 outs in the top of the second inning. Parker Heistand singled out to right field to keep their offense alive, and then he immediately stole second base on the next pitch. After Mason Moser singled to get on first, Eli Blair hit an RBI single to give Heistand the chance to make it across the plate before Moser was thrown out at third.
On the mound for OCHS was Luke Quinn who threw a no-hitter with 5 strikeouts. For AHS, Noah Cook had 5 strikeouts in 5 innings and Ryleigh Logan had 2 strikeouts.
Castle, IN 14, DCHS 0
Daviess County took to the road to face off against Castle, IN, but they suffered a tough 14-0 defeat.
Castle opened up the scoring at the bottom of the first inning with 1 run. Daviess County fell further behind after Castle extended their lead in the second with 3 more runs. After another run in the third, Castle scored 9 runs in the fourth to close out the game at 14-0. Brett Poole recorded 3 strikeouts on the mound.
OHS 5, McLean Co. 3
Owensboro hosted McLean County and secured a 5-3 win.
Owensboro started off strong as they held a 3-1 lead at the end of the first inning. They scored their final 2 runs in the second inning. Trevor Delacey, Lake Wilson and Will Rickard all combined for 7 strikeouts and allowed just 7 hits throughout the rest of the game to hold off McLean. McLean scored 1 run in the fourth inning and 1 in the seventh, but OHS took the win at 5-3.
Ty Ashley had 2 RBIs off of one hit, and Evan Hampton hit a triple, a double and scored 2 runs.
