Baseball recap (March 27): AHS, OCHS, THS

Apollo hosted Indiana school Castle and came out victorious while Owensboro Catholic and Trinity both suffered defeats on the day. Owensboro Catholic hosted Breckinridge at home in a close game that saw Catholic narrowly lose 6-5. Individual stats for OCHS are currently unavailable.

AHS 7, Castle, IN 5

Apollo played at home against Castle in a game that saw them make a big turnaround in the fourth inning after trailing by 5 to pull off the 7-5. 

Castle put Apollo in a tough spot early on by scoring 5 runs in the first inning. Apollo struck with a single run in the second, but they still trailed 5-1. After the third inning went scoreless, Apollo made big plays at the plate in the bottom of the fourth to score 6 runs and take the lead. AHS held Castle scoreless and protected their lead to win 7-5.

Michael Chaney led at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs and 1 scored run. Sam Holder scored 1 run and had an RBI off of 2 hits. Garrett Lanham had an RBI as well. On the mound, Will Strode recorded 5 strikeouts, and Carter Kimmel had 3 strikeouts with no hits in the last 2 innings.

Edmonson Co. 11, THS 0

Trinity traveled to Edmonson County where they suffered a tough 11-0 defeat. 

The first inning saw Edmonson gain a 3 run lead before both teams went scoreless in the second. Edmonson then overwhelmed THS at the plate with 8 runs in the third inning. Trinity struggled to get on the board in the fourth, and a scoreless fifth inning saw the game end 11-0. 

Connor Hatfield had 2 hits at the plate, and Carson Fitzgerald and Brady McBrayer combined for 7 strikeouts on the mound.
