Baseball recap (March 28): DCHS, OHS

Both Daviess County and Owensboro had big wins on the day as DCHS traveled across the bridge into Indiana to take on South Spencer, while Owensboro stayed at home and hosted Henderson County. 

DCHS 16, South Spencer, IN 9

Daviess County had lots of success at the plate in their 16-9 win over South Spencer. 

Daviess County started things off with a single run in the first inning for an early lead. DC scored another run in the top of the second, but the Rebels took the lead at the bottom of the inning with 4 runs. This didn’t last long however, as the Panthers pulled the lead right back with 3 runs in the third inning. They extended their lead in the next inning with 3 more runs to put the score at 8-4. After DC scored another run in the fifth inning, the game heated up with both teams scoring 5 runs in the inning. These would be last runs for South Spencer however, as DCHS held them scoreless and scored 2 more runs in the seventh to take the win at 16-9. 

DCHS had 13 hits during the game. Carter Nichols hit a triple as part of his 4 hits, and he had 2 RBIs as well as scoring 3 runs. Noah Ranburger had 2 hits, 3 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Brayden Wells had 3 RBIs and scored 1 run. Brody Brubaker scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. 

Multiple pitchers saw action as Weston Lawrence, Brodie Tucker, Benjamin Watkins and Nichols all combined for 7 strikeouts and allowed 7 hits during the game. 

OHS 14, Henderson Co. 4

Owensboro had a big 14-4 win at home against Henderson County. 

Owensboro came out swinging as they gained a 3-0 lead going into the second inning. The second and third innings saw both defenses hold one another scoreless. Henderson took the lead with a big 4-run performance in the fourth inning. The Red Devils kicked it into high gear in the final two innings as they took back the lead in the sixth with 6 runs, and they didn’t let up in the seventh as they closed out the game with 5 runs. The final score saw OHS win 14-4.

Will Rickard had a big game at the plate as he had 5 RBIs and scored 1 run off of 2 hits. Trevor DeLacey had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs off of 1 hit. Cayden Ray and Ty Ashley both scored 3 runs, and Ashley had 1 RBI with 2 hits while Ray had 3 hits that included 2 doubles. Blake Kimbrell scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI.

On the mound, Ray, Brady Benjamin and Kaleb Ashley all combined for 5 strikeouts during the game while only allowing 3 hits.
