Softball recap (March 26): DCHS, OCHS, THS

Although Apollo and Owensboro’s district game was canceled due to the wind advisory, Daviess County, Trinity and Owensboro Catholic all managed to get wins out of the day.

DCHS 11, Muhlenberg Co. 1

Daviess County took to the road where they got a big 11-1 win over Muhlenberg. 

The game started off evenly as both teams got their offenses moving with a single run each in the first inning. DCHS took a comfortable lead in the top of the second inning after scoring 4  runs. The third inning went scoreless, but DC scored another run in the fourth. After having shut down Muhlenberg for the last 4 innings, DCHS scored 5 runs in the fifth  and the game was called at 11-1. 

Annie Newman had a big game at the plate as she hit a homerun, hit 2 doubles, had 4 RBIs off of 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Sadie Morris also had a big game as she hit a homerun, had 4 RBIs and scored 1 run. Makayla Rowan and Kylie Clark both scored 2 runs as well. On the mound was Sophie Cain who recorded 7 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits.

OCHS 8, Evansville Mater Dei, IN 3

Owensboro Catholic traveled to Indiana where they took down Evansville Mater Dei 8-3.

Owensboro Catholic gathered a 2 run lead in the first inning and held onto that lead in the second. Mater Dei got on the scoreboard with 1 run in the third. Catholic extended their lead even further in the fifth inning by scoring 3 more runs while holding off Mater Dei. They would strike back in the next inning with 2 runs, but OCHS scored the final 3 runs in the seventh and closed out the game at 8-3. 

Tyranda Stuart led at the plate with an impressive performance that included 2 homeruns, 5 RBIs and 3 scored runs. Hannah Tignor had 3 RBIs and hit a double, and Maren Riney hit a double as well. On the mound was Hannah Robbins who only allowed 3 hits with 6 strikeouts.

THS 17, Dawson Springs 0

Trinity hosted Dawson Spring in a very quick 17-0 win. 

The game lasted all but 2.5 innings as Trinity caught fire quickly with 8 runs in the first inning and 9 in the second. Sarah Payne hit a homerun along with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Hope Boarman hit a triple, a double, had 4 RBIs and scored 1 run. Sophie Hatfield hit a triple, had 3 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Madison McDaniel, Ella Morris, Georgia Howard, Kylie Hatfield and Emma Whitehouse all scored 2 runs on the night as well.

On the mound, Sophie Hatfield threw a perfect game as she recorded 9 strikeouts and didn’t allow any hits or any bases.
