Tennis recap (March 28): AHS, OHS

Owensboro had a clean sweep against Breckinridge County while Apollo had varying success against Muhlenberg County. 

AHS

The E-gals secured a comfortable 8-1 win against Muhlenberg. The boys’ team fought it out with Muhlenberg and barely fell short as they were defeated 5-4. 

The girls’ team was led in singles by a big 8-0 win by Adelyn Dilbeck, 8-1 wins by Sophey Jennings and Maddie Ebelhar and an 8-2 win by Karsen Locher. In doubles, the duo of Macey Woodruff/Jessie Pate got an 8-2 win, Ella Hayden/Ebelhar won 8-3 and Anna Dilbeck/Sami Ebelhar won 8-4. 

The boys’ team lost a close match at 5-4. Stetson Osbourne started out strong for AHS clinching the first win, and Jamison Franey secured an 8-3 win for himself as well. Connor O’Bryan got an 8-4 win to round out singles. Franey and O’Bryan then paired up for doubles where they won 8-6. 

OHS

Owensboro had no trouble taking down Breckinridge as the boys’ team won 9-0 and the girls’ team won 7-2. 

The boys had multiple big wins in their dominant victory as Walker Gladdis won 6-0, John Clay Ford got a 6-1 victory, Jeremy Gilliham had an 8-0 win and Arlo Johnson, Miles McDaniel and Andrew Diebel all secured 8-2 wins. Doubles was just as successful as the duos of Ford/Gaddis and Johnson/Diebel both got 6-0 wins and McDaniel/Gilliham won 8-1. 

The girls’ team’s big win was highlighted by 6-0 wins by Addie Travis and an 8-1 win from Drew Crandall in singles. OHS got the sweep in doubles with a big win by the duo of Whitley Ford/Travis who secured back-to-back 6-0 wins, Ellie Watson/Blair Gaddis who won 8-4 and Carsyn Cecil/Graycen Roberts who won 8-5.
